Saat berbelanja di sebuah pasar terbuka, reporter muda Tintin (Jamie Bell), ditemani oleh anjingnya yang setia, Snowy, membeli sebuah model kapal tua yang disebut Unicorn. Seorang tokoh jahat bernama Sakharine (Daniel Craig) dan kemudian seorang pria Amerika bernama Barnaby (Joe Starr) mencoba membeli model tersebut darinya, namun Tintin menolaknya. Anak itu menemukan bahwa kapal itu berisi petunjuk tentang harta karun, tetapi sebelum dia bisa menemukannya, Tintin diculik dan diserahkan ke dalam pengawasan Kapten Haddock (Andy Serkis) yang sedang mabuk.
